Types of LED Chips and Their Differences

Understanding LED chip packaging is essential for B2B buyers who need to specify the right fixture for the application. Kingseng uses three primary chip types across our product lines, each selected for performance in specific commercial environments.

SMD (Surface-Mount Diode) — 2835 and 5050: The workhorse of the industry. Our KS-PL pendant series (KS-PL-001 to KS-PL-013) uses SMD 2835 chips for uniform light distribution and excellent lm/W efficacy — ideal for general ambient lighting in hotels and offices.

COB (Chip-on-Board): A dense array of chips on a single substrate produces a concentrated, uniform beam with minimal glare. Our KS-LT-22W Linear Track Light employs COB architecture to deliver 1,980 lumens with CRI > 90 and precise beam control for retail accent applications.

CSP (Chip-Scale Package): The latest packaging innovation — 80% smaller than SMD — enabling ultra-thin fixture designs. Our KS-WS series (KS-WS-001 to KS-WS-009) incorporates CSP LEDs for sleek, low-profile wall luminaires that maintain high efficacy and thermal stability.

Application Guide:

— General ambient (lobbies, corridors): SMD 2835 in KS-PL pendants

— Accent/display (retail, galleries): COB in KS-LT track lights

— Ultra-thin/sleek (boutique hotels): CSP in KS-WS wall sconces

All Kingseng chip-level components use premium phosphor blends to deliver CRI > 90 across the board. Contact our engineering team for detailed LM-80 reports and chip binning data.
